Day and Time: Friday, 3:00 pm Eastern/12:00 pm Pacific

Current Open Dates: July 24, 2020 and August 14, 2020 – 4 spots for each date

Description

You and up to three other practitioners will each have a dedicated 15-minute slot to discuss RUBI case implementation concerns. After presenting your case and questions, Dr. Bearss will lead the discussion and provide guidance and next steps to help you develop your RUBI parent training practice.

 

To protect confidentiality, all patient/client-relevant questions are required to be presented in a manner that ensures that case data is de-identifiedPre-submission of case and questions is recommended.

Examples of topics that are appropriate for RUBI discussion group:

  • Discussion of appropriateness of cases for RUBI
  • Treatment design considerations when implementing RUBI in concert with other interventions
  • Addressing barriers to family participation (session attendance, homework completion, resistance to homework design)
  • RUBI delivery questions (e.g., pacing of session delivery, collaboration between providers/settings such as schools/other therapists)
  • Implementation questions around the supplemental sessions (e.g., toileting, sleep)
  • RUBI clinic design considerations (e.g., space design, billing issues, session documentation, scheduling options)
  • Methods for including trainees in clinic

Examples of topics that are not appropriate for RUBI discussion group:

  • De-escalation/harm-reduction procedures
  • Discussion of cases that fall out of the scope of RUBI (e.g., older individuals with ASD)
  • Use of RUBI with behaviors that are not an appropriate fit (e.g, more severe/dangerous behaviors; Self-injurious behaviors; targeted behaviors such as pica, encopresis)

Continuing Education

This event is not eligible for continuing education. Only those currently using or serious about using the RUBI Parent Training Program in their practice should sign up for a spot in a discussion group.

Bio and Disclosure

Karen Bearss is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. She earned her B.S. in Psychology as well as her M.S. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Florida. Prior to joining the UW community, she served as an Associate Research Scientist at the School of Nursing and Child Study Center at Yale University and Assistant Professor at Emory University where her work focused on parenting interventions for children with disruptive behaviors, as well as the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based treatments into community mental health centers. At UW, her research continues to focus on developing, evaluating and implementing evidence-based parenting interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dr. Bearss also directs the RUBI Clinic at the Seattle Children’s Autism Center.
